The 2014 Grammy Award

The Grammy Awards 2014 is the biggest musical event of the year to recognize the outstanding achievement of music world. I didn't know how big it was until I actually watched it. This event just happened on Sunday night. The Grammy Award started with Beyonce's song, called Drunk in Love. She rocked the stage with her husband, Jay-Z. It was super incredible.

This year was just for Daft Punk. They won 5 parts of awards, which is 'Album of the year,' 'Record of the year,''Best Pop Duo/Group Performance,' 'Best Dance/ Electronic Album.' Most of people would agree with that results because they created best albums with best producer, Pharrell Williams. Daft Punk also did a special performance with Steven Wonder.It was a touching performance with Stevie wonder's voice.

 

Also, I didn't expect Lorde who is 17years old girl was going to win two of best award parts.

Because I thought she is too young to get those awards. However, her performance was very nice. She has great talents as a songwriter, lyricist and singer. The reason why I trust and love the Grammy Award is that they vote the winner by the quality of music, vocal talent and phenomenal dance moves, NOT popularity votes. I can see who is the greatest artist who makes people feel as the artist wants with their musical talents. Plus, in this kind of Awards invite the old greatest artists such as Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. Their voices and musics represent their periods. I love 80s 90s musics because there is no electronic sounds or fake performance.

Madonna's special performance with Macklemore was a great performance for 'Same Love'  with 33 couples. I know that everyone has different opinions about The Same Love, but also everyone has a right to love someone they love. This kind of performance will make people impressive by their voices.

Sang-Soo Ahn

I would like to talk about Sang-Soo Ahn who is the Korean Graphic Designer. Even though I was Korean, I didn't know about any of Korean Designers. When I researched him for an assignment in last semester, I could find many Korean Designers who are very creative and try to show other country people about Korea. I felt very embarrassed because I always tried to follow what other country people and culture did. After I researched Sang-soo Ahn, I feel strong self-esteem about being a Korean, and one day, I wish I can create a great project that represent Korea.

Sang-Soo Ahn is the godfather of Korean typography. He presents Korean Alphabet, called Hangeul, to the world, and many people was able to know the beauty of Hangeul. He is the most influential typography designer in East Asia.  His jobs are mainly a typographer and graphic designer. Currently, he is doing multi-faceted cultural producer and transmits his design world to poetry, photography and installation widely.

 As I did, when other Asian designers got inspired western design as ideal, Sang-Soo Ahn discovered the beauty of Hangeull he created what he is today as typographer. He loves his country and language. He hopes more people know more about Hangeul and the culture of Korea.  At the end of this week, it is the Korean New Year. (Some people called Chinese New Year.) I feel more proud of  being Korean. and remind myself to be the best Korean graphic Designer. Happy Korean Year!

Sherlock Holmes BBC

Sherlock holmes BBC version is one of favorite dramas I watched. Don't compare with the comic version of Sherlock Holmes movie. This drama has more details and better quality on it. In this drama, Serlock holmes got famous with having the sociopath which is an antisocial personality disorder. When he takes a look on people roughly, he can guess right about their information. For example, where they are from, what kind of life they have, and what kind of job they have. On the first episode of first season, when Sherlock met Dr.Watson, Sherlock asked him to borrow his phone. It was only few seconds, but Sherock could guess that Dr.Watson was the army surgeon, his brother just got divorced, and his brother had bad drinking problem.(Well,.. Dr.Watson has a sister. but other information were correct.)

He always guess and figure out who they are and what they have been doing so most of people including women don't like him.  Dr. Watson is being a good partner with Sherlock because Sherlock helped him to get better on his painful leg. Sherlock describes himself as a private investigator but he just made this title of career by his own.

The way they solve the case is very interesting because of the way Sherlock guesses by checking the details on people. And, the relationships between Sherlock and other people always bring the cases and his life to an unexpected dynamic ways. Even though the sociopath is one of psychological diseases, I would like to know people by looking them roughly as Sherlock does.

Pharrell Williams

If you watched Grammy Award last night, you can't escape Pharrell William who wore the big brown hats and red Adidas hoodie last night. He is a songwriter, record producer, fashion designer and interior designer. He collects a lot of art works he likes and he also did several collaborations with various artists and brand. He tries to discover new artists or designer. For example, Min-Ah Gwon is one of artists who got famous by Pharrell Williams. He always got success whatever he does. I think that his strong passion brings his projects to be successful.

There is a funny rumor that he is an alien from space because he never gets old. I didn't believe his age when I heard he is 41 years old. He always develops himself to get new inspiration. I trust his designs and his sense of music, so anything he creates I check it out. He creates the new trend and he brings people into that trend. He doesn't design only one trend; he loves to try new things that no one tried before.

Pharrell williams tough me that I have to do things I like and bring out all of passion I have. I wish I can be an artist, like Pharrell Williams, who has talented on various fields such as designs, fashion, art and interior. Before I finish this post, I would like to recommend one of his newest song called "Happy." Because I know that this song will make you feel HAPPY :)

BE@ARBRICKS

Bearbricks(BE@ARBRICKS) is a collectible Japanese toy brand. I'm collecting Bearbricks as well. It brings me to this design field. When I was in high school, I found out some little toys with various visual design patterns and one of them was limited bearbricks. I thought that I can not leave that store with buying the bearbricks. It was the thrill and like a drug. I was so into the little bear shape with creative design patterns. I went to Japan to buy the newest series before; I knew that the bearbricks is worth enough to collect. The official website is http://www.bearbrick.com in Japanese. The main figure of Bearbricks looks like a bear, but it is designed with different patterns and different sizes. The standard size is 7cm high, referred to as 100% bearbricks, and the highest high is 1000%, which is 70cm high.



Each years, the company creates one or two series. The series 27 is the newest one in this year. I wish I can buy all of them as soon as possible. There is only one store selling the bearbricks in Vancouver. So, I have to wait few more weeks because the store doesn't sell this series yet and online shipping cost a lot of money. (Sadly..) I wish I can display my place with a lot of bearbricks. Dreams will come true.
